Mother’s Day | | Teddy + Lola

Lola hadn’t been surprised to receive those text messages from Teddy. She had known that the day would be difficult for both of them, which is why she wasted no time in covering their coffee table with all of their favourite foods so that they could eat their feelings. She hoped that the combination of junk food, old movies and some company would be enough to distract Teddy at least a little bit. “Teddy, the feast is served!” she called out so that Teddy knew she had finished setting everything up and he could now leave his bedroom to join her in the living room.

Teddy hated crying. Real men don’t cry, that’s what his dad always told him. So Teddy had a tendency to hold everything in until he just couldn’t anymore. So that’s what he’d been doing when he first texted Lola; crying. And getting upset at himself for crying. He did manage to pull himself together a bit before joining her in the living room. His hair was sticking up funny, and his eyes were red, but he was determined to pretend that everything was fine… or at least relatively fine. He sat down on the couch and cleared his throat as he surveyed the food in front of him. “It looks good… thanks. For doing this.”

“If my former teachers and current professors are anything to go by, I’ve been told that I’m very firm and tenacious. I’ve also been kicked off of every debate team I’ve been on, but that’s a different story for a different time.”

“Well, you sound like you’d be the perfect person to convince him to cancel finals then. I… I’m not even good at convincing myself to do things half the time.”

“Are you okay?” Caris asked, instead of repeating herself when it was obvious he was rather distracted. “You look kind of… off. Is something wrong?”

Teddy cleared his throat. “Yeah, I’m… I’m fine. Just, uh, spacey today I guess.” He shot her what he hoped was a reassuring smile.

“Well, not everyone has what should be considered common sense. You know?”

image

“Yeah, that’s true,” he agreed. “So are you done with your finals yet?”

“I just don’t think green spandex is really apartment attire”, Lola pointed out with a laugh.

image

“Well, what kind of attire is it then?” he asked, his lips pulling up into a grin.

“I’m sorry that the people weren’t great”, Hadley said softly. She didn’t want it to seem like she was prying for more details, especially considering they hadn’t known each other for long, so she decided it was best to keep it simple. “Psychology and Social Behaviour. You?”

“They weren’t all bad,” he replied. The bad ones were bad enough though that he had no desire to move back to LA. “What do you want to do with it?” he asked curiously. “Oh, uh, accounting. Nothing exciting.”

RJ and Teddy were having a cram session for their last final of the semester since the two shared a class together, they both decided it would be best to study together. So they’d been stuck in a study room for over the past three hours, She’d been going over the Tudor era in English history and she’d stopped to ask him if he knew the answer since they were mainly reviewing. ‘I asked do you remember what year Anne Boleyn got beheaded?’, she repeats herself before staring over to the male again, ‘Teddy, are you okay? You seemed distracted for the past hour or so?’

“May 19th, 1536,” Teddy responded almost immediately. Remembering dates had always been the easiest part of history for Teddy. They just kind of stuck in his brain for some reason. “Sorry… I’m– I’m not being a very good study partner, am I?”

“Of course not. I’d do anything for you”, Arden said truthfully. “Your place is closer from here – mind if I crash on your couch tonight? I don’t feel like walking all the way home”.

“You’re always welcome in my bed,” Teddy said, his face immediately turning red as he realized how his words sounded. “Um. You know what I mean.” He held his arm out. “Shall we?”

lolafields‌:

“I’ll have to work on deepening my voice, then”, Lola grinned. “I hope this doesn’t mean that you’re going to be wearing green spandex tights around the apartment, though?” she added, unable to resist teasing him a little.

“You don’t think I’d look good in them?” he asked, before laughing. “Don’t worry, no spandex for me.”
